Job Description

Brighton College Vietnam at Vinhomes Ocean Park, Hanoi is now open for admissions for the 2023-2024 academic year from grade 1 to grade 10 (from 5 to 16 years old). This is the first campus to be established under the partnership between Vingroup and Brighton College, an UK’s top private school with nearly 200 years of history.

CORE PURPOSE 

The Nursery Nurse plays a vital role in ensuring the highest standards of care, intimate care, safety, and early development for children in the Prep School EYFS setting, particularly those under the age of three. 

The role supports pupils’ physical, emotional, and developmental needs, enabling a smooth transition into school life while ensuring full compliance with EYFS statutory requirements, including staff-to-child ratios. 

CONTEXT OF THE ROLE 

The Nursery Nurse will: 

  • Support provision for younger pupils with increased care needs  
  • Ensure compliance with 1:4 staffing ratios for children under three  
  • Strengthen the quality, consistency, and continuity of care across the EYFS setting  
  • Contribute to a nurturing, safe, and developmentally appropriate environment  

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

1. INTIMATE CARE AND WELL BEING 

  • Adhere strictly to the school’s Intimate Care Policy whilst providing high-quality intimate care, including:  
  • Nappy changing  
  • Toileting support  
  • Managing accidents with sensitivity and discretion  
  • Maintain high standards of hygiene and safeguarding at all times in line with EYFS statutory requirements and school safeguarding policies 
  • Support children’s physical comfort, emotional security, and wellbeing  

2. SETTLING AND TRANSITIONS 

  • Support children in transitioning into the school environment, particularly those new to nursery  
  • Help pupils separate confidently from parents/carers  
  • Provide reassurance and consistency throughout the school day  
  • Support transitions between activities, routines, and environments  

3. REST AND ROUTINE CARE 

  • Create a calm, safe environment for napping  
  • Supervise and support rest and sleep routines  
  • Monitor children during rest periods in line with safeguarding expectations  

4. PLAY BASED LEARNING SUPPORT 

  • Engage children in age-appropriate, play-based learning activities  
  • Support the development of:  
  • Personal, social, and emotional skills  
  • Early physical development  
  • Model positive interactions  
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and LTAs to support learning through play  

5. SUPERVISION AND SAFETY 

  • Provide enhanced supervision during:  
  • Indoor and outdoor play  
  • Transitions and movement around the school  
  • Meal and sleep times  
  • Trips outside of school 
  • Ensure a safe and stimulating environment for younger pupils  
  • Remain vigilant and responsive to children’s needs at all times 

6. WRAP AROUND CARE PROVISION 

  • Support extended day provision, including:  
  • Morning care (7:30–8:00am)  
  • Afternoon care (4:00–4:30pm)  
  • INSET and induction programmes  
  • Provide a calm, nurturing environment at the start and end of the day  
  • Support children with:  
  • Settling into school  
  • Transitioning between home and school  
  • Engagement in low-stimulation, age-appropriate activities  
  • Ensure appropriate supervision and ratio compliance during these periods  

7. TEAM SUPPORT AND FLEXIBILITY 

  • Work collaboratively with EYFS teachers, LTAs, and leadership  
  • Provide additional staffing capacity to ensure continuity of care during staff absence  
  • Contribute to a positive, professional, and supportive team environment

The Nursery Nurse will demonstrate:

  • Strong understanding of early childhood development (particularly under 3s)  
  • A nurturing and attentive approach to care
